Hello! Welcome to Birth's Journey, natural childbirth education classes serving Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region! My name is Laura Tefertiller, and I am an ALACE educated certified childbirth educator. As a trained doula, I believe and trust in a woman's ability to birth her baby. Birth's Journey classes are based on the premise that pregnancy is a normal event in a woman’s life. They are designed for home- birthing and hospital-birthing families, and are tailored to meet the needs of moms and dads (a supportive friend is also encouraged to attend). Birth’s Journey classes are six weeks long—four and three week “refresher” classes are also available. Pregnancy and birth are a magical time in a woman's life, a time to celebrate her bodily wisdom and tune into her intuitive sense to birth. I wish for you and your family a peaceful, informed, and empowering birth. Good luck as you travel down the road to "Birth's Journey!"
Topics typically covered in class: • Pregnancy and Culture/Pregnancy Myths • Nutrition and Exercise • Physiology and Anatomy • First, Second, and Third Stages of Labor • Comfort Measures for Labor • Labor Support/Role of a Doula • Hospital Procedures • Pros/Cons of Medical Interventions • Communicating With Your Caregiver/Birth Plans • Informed Consent and Informed Refusal • Unexpected Outcomes • Cesarean Awareness • Postpartum Care, Breastfeeding, and Newborn Care
About Laura: In addition to being a certified childbirth educator, I am the mother of two children born at home, I am a La Leche League Leader and a co-leader of the Colorado Springs BirthNetwork chapter. BirthNetwork is a national non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide information and support to anyone interested in having a safe and satisfying birth (www.birthnetwork.org). We meet every third Wednesday of the month from 6:30-8:00pm in the café at Wild Oats Natural Marketplace.
