| “Just as a woman's heart knows how and when to pump, her lungs to inhale, and her hand to pull back from fire, so she knows when and how to give birth.” ~Virginia Di Orio ABOUT ME: I’m Melissa Evans. I started my adult life with a degree in Computer Science. While in school, I took a human development class that transformed my perspective on birth, breastfeeding, and parenting. I learned about the benefits of natural birth, how breastfeeding should be painless, and gentle discipline concepts. The lessons I leaned in that class are the foundation for my passions today. My husband and I have two amazing children. I loved being a Bradley® student when I was pregnant with my first child; I loved how we spent so much time on nutrition, communication, and relaxation. What we learned in class was invaluable during both my pregnancies and births and continues to help our family live healthier lives. I am so excited to be able to share what I know with other parents. I believe how a baby enters this world will have an impact on the rest of their life. I know how a mother feels about her birth will have lasting effects on her life as well. I want you to understand what's going on - inside your body and outside - and to trust yourself. I want you to know your choices, be empowered, and find the untapped strength that lies within. I want labor companions to feel comfortable and confident and to know how important and needed they are from pre- conception, to labor and birth, into grandparenthood. I want your baby to have the gentlest, safest entrance to this world as possible. Our world needs more Bradley® families! “Labor may be hard work, but natural childbirth is beautiful. It is the most loving gift you can give to your baby.” ~My Mom MY CLASSES: My series consists of 12 classes in a semi-private environment. This gives us more time for relaxation practices, labor rehearsals, videos, and most importantly, to give you as much time as you need for your individual situation. I’m not employed by any hospital, doctor, insurance company, or midwife. I am employed by you and as such, my goal is to make sure all your needs are met. My classes are designed for both mom and dad/partner. We focus on the skills moms and partners need for labor. I have many activities to sharpen techniques and keep everyone involved. Class topics include ~ being comfortable in pregnancy ~ staying low risk so you have more options ~ communication with your birth team ~ relaxation ~ positive positions ~ physical and emotional stages of labor ~ tools for labor and birth ~ avoiding unnecessary discomfort ~ understanding the choices you have ~ variations and complications to normal birth, including cesareans ~ exercise ~ nutrition ~ breastfeeding ~ newborn care ~ parenting ~ and your concerns. Much of this information will be useful not only in the labor room and nursery, but throughout your life. My comprehensive classes save you the trouble of scheduling pregnancy classes, birth classes, breastfeeding classes, and newborn classes because all of these are included. “If we are to heal the planet, we must begin by healing birthing.” ~Agnes Sallet Von Tannenberg |
